Please note: TNA’s monthly programs have changed to a new location and day. We now meet at the Ward Pavilion at Wildwood Metropark on Thursdays at 7:00 pm.

Fisheries Research in Western Lake Erie - monthly program

Jeff Miner, PhD and Chair of Biological Sciences at Bowling Green State University, will discuss his research on fishes in Lake Erie. He and his students have studied the effects of invasive round gobies, stocked steelhead trout, larval walleye in the Maumee River, northern pike in our coastal wetlands, and the recent invasion by grass carp. He will also identify new tools scientists use to track and monitor fish populations.

When: Thursday, Feb. 15, 7:00 pm

Where: Ward Pavilion at Wildwood Preserve, 4830 Central Avenue, Toledo, OH

Winter Tree Identification - field trip

How do you tell what kind of tree it is when there aren’t even any leaves on it? Join the Wizard of Woodlawn, Tim Haney, to find out. He’ll show us some of the wide variety of native trees at the Historic Woodlawn cemetery and how to identify them any time of year. Meet Tim just inside the front entrance at Central & Auburn Avenues in Toledo. We’ll be out until about 12:00 p.m.

When: Saturday, Feb. 24, 9:30 am (Note: this was rescheduled from Feb 17, sorry for any inconvenience.)

Where: Historic Woodlawn Cemetery, 1502 W. Central Avenue, Toledo, OH

Woodpecker Hunt at Oak Openings Preserve - field trip

Woodpeckers are fascinating creatures. We are fortunate to have seven different species of woodpecker right here in Northwest Ohio. A loop around the Silver Trail at Oak Openings should offer some solid opportunities. Though it may be difficult, we’ll try for the clean sweep of all seven regularly occurring woodpeckers. Meet leader Brandon Brywczynski at the Buehner Center’s window on wildlife at 9 a.m. to join in the fun. We’ll be out until about 11:00 a.m.

When: Sunday, Feb. 25, 9:00 am

Where: Buehner Center, Oak Openings Preserve, 5240 Wilkins Road, Whitehouse, OH
