Come and join in on some great fall events!

Astronomy III: Meet the Moon - TNA Fieldtrip
When: Sat, October 8, 7pm – 9pm
Where: Beaver Creek Preserve, Long Judson Road, Grand Rapids, OH, United States (map)
Description: This is the third of three terrific astronomy field trips being led by John Starr from the Toledo Astronomy Association, and TNA member. He'll be sharing his knowledge and his telescopes to bring the moon a little closer. Astute observers will note that on this date the moon will actually be in the first quarter - so, why now you might wonder. John notes that the moon is best seen through a telescope at or around first quarter. You get the best light contrast then and details on the moon can be more easily seen. You might want to bring a folding chair. Directions to Beaver Creek Preserve: From S. River Road/Rt 295 head over the Maumee River to Grand Rapids and turn left on Front Street. Go about 1/4 mile down to Route 204 and turn right (south). Take 204 south about a mile to where it deadheads into Long Judson Road. Turn left on Long Judson Road and take this road about 1/4 mile - the entrance is on the left but is not particularly well marked so you must be alert.

Raptors & Brunch - TNA Fieldtrip
When: Sun, October 30, 10am – 2pm
Where:Perrysburg City Boat Launch - E Harrison Ave, Perrysburg, OH (see directions in description) (map)
Description:Raptors migrating south are the attraction, possible Golden Eagles are the goal. Bring your lawn chair and hope for clouds. Bring a food item to share; it doesn’t have to be fancy. Camp stoves and tables will be available. Meet leaders Todd Haggard & John Chadwick at Perrysburg City Boat Launch. Directions: Four blocks (.4 miles) NE of “downtown” Perrysburg along the river on E. Front St. (Rt. 65), turn toward the river on Maple St. and drive downhill.

UPDATED DATE & TIME:Sandhill Cranes! - TNA Fieldtrip
When:Sun, October 30, 5:00pm – 6:30pm
Where:Haehnle Sanctuary, Seymour Rd, Pleasant Lake, MI 49272, United States (map)
Description:Make your way to Phyllis Haehnle Sanctuary (Seymour Rd, Pleasant Lake, MI 49272) and join leaders Jan Dixon and Karen Mitchell to watch sandhill cranes fly in for the evening to roost in the marshes - it's truly a majestic and thrilling experience! Sunset is at 6:30pm so you'll want to be prompt - low water levels may force us to a different area in search of better viewing. Some years there are thousands of cranes and other years only in the hundreds. The trip is dependent on travel weather and the latest information on the cranes. Please check the TNA website for any last minute change in plans.
