16 Red crossbills with about 20 Pine siskins and a Purple finch - Tornado Alley (just south of the lodge on the south side is Swan Creek) in Oak Openings Preserve Metropark about ten minutes ago. The crossbills were very vocal and active, flying from tree to tree. At least two were in the pines over the lodge when I got back to the car.

Audio recording Friday 11/24/17 afternoon confirms Red Crossbills (Ponderosa Pine or type 2) present.  Could be other types at the park too.

This Cornell article has more details on Red Crossbill types http://ebird.org/content/ebird/news/crossbills-of-north-america-species-and-red-crossbill-call-types/
