This afternoon, Sep 11, I counted 65 Monarchs in our 2 1/2 acre goldenrod meadow. There were many more up high, obviously migrating. This is by far the most I have seen in our 5 years here (along the river near Grand Rapids).

The waterfront in downtown Chicago was full of flying monarchs this weekend.  Apparently a good year for them, finally!

I was on charter Tuesday morning on lake between Port Clinton and South Bass and saw the most monarchs I have ever seen in my life migrating across lake in the morning. Everywhere you looked you could see monarchs going by at different elevations non stop. It was a cold, windy(out of north) cloudy morning which made it more surprising. Did see 4 white pelicans also , my first.
