At approximately 2:50 p.m. today as I arrived at my home, I heard what I thought were trumpeter swans. I scanned the water in front of my home, but I could not see any swans. After about a minute or so I just happened to look straight up and I saw two flocks of what I suspect were some type of cranes. They appeared from my vantage point to be pure white with black wingtips. The birds were too slender to be swans or pelicans, they also had a very shrill type of call, very similar to a trumpeter swan.If anyone has any idea of their identity please post a comment.

Look up Snow Goose and see if that sounds right.

Rick Nirschl, snow geese is a good possibility,it never crossed my mind. The birds were so high up that it made it difficult to be sure. They were definitely migrating southward. Thanks Rick for the reply.

Sincerely'Ottawa Steve

I know you said they were not swans, but I just wanted to mention there were a lot of Tundra swans on the move this week.  Just fyi.

Cheers.
