Dunlin are surely our most common migrant shorebird. Most are seen along the lakeshore, on mudflats or in flooded fields. But this morning, Nov 2, there was an impressive movement of them along the Maumee River corridor. I did a river watch from 8-930 am and counted over 500 passing by just upstream from Otsego Rapids. All were headed up-river. I am sure I have never seen this many shorebirds on the river in one day before. Pretty impressive. Bonaparte's gulls also put on a good show with almost 900 seen. In fact, some of the low-flying flocks were mixed Bonaparte's and Dunlin.
