Did a little scouting today for the woodpecker walk in a couple weeks. Red-headed’s have been a little scarce, but was able to get one today. Red-bellied, hairy, and downy were present. Pileated woodpecker was the highlight by far. Not simply because I saw one...but because I saw 5! All were relatively close to each other in Tornado Alley. At one point three were in the same tree. Other notables include a fly by bald eagle, a red-shouldered hawk coming into perch less than 50 feet from me, and red-breasted nuthatch in the pines near the end of the nature center parking lot.
