Fewer birds, howling winds and crowds of birders made leaving Magee early today easy. Drove some roads with flooded fields and found 40 American Golden-Plovers on Darsch Rd.
Then to Metzger which was magical this afternoon. Point blank extended views of Prairie, Golden-winged and Blue-winged Warblers were among the 22 species I saw in the short time I was there. Nashville and Tennessee Warblers were present in very large numbers. Almost all the birds were eye level and lower. On the way out, there was a Short-eared Owl flying over the marsh.
