Ken and I have a bird visiting our feeder, and we need help with its identification. It certainly has a grosbeak bill and is cracking safflower seeds. Our photos are awful--I only hope they are good enough for someone to help us with the identification.
Although my first thought was (juvenile) female evening grosbeak, it doesn't have a large white wing patch and we don't think it large enough. I include a third photo to show size comparison with the house finches with which it is feeding. - Helen Ostermiller southern Medina County |

I'm sorry the images didn't come through. You can see them at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6xb7e7n5e8rdqte/nEU927qrju
My husband, Ken, posted them on the Ohio Birding facebook page where Ethan Kistler and Paul Hurtado identified the bird as a European Greenfinch! It came to our feeder a number of times yesterday, though we haven't yet seen it this morning. Helen Ostermiller |
