Yesterday while surveying our Lake Erie Bluffs Park in Painesville Township I heard what I immediately recognized as fish crow calls.  I saw three birds heading east along the lake.  I was able to get off a few flight shots of them.  According to to the Cornell website: http://www.birds.cornell.edu/crows/FishCrow.htm, the two crows have a different wing formula.  In fish crow P9 is greater than or equal to P5, In American crow P5 is decidedly longer..  Any thoughts on this?

There is Ruff at the Shreve Fishpond on Kister Rd in Wayne County that has been seen by multiple birders since yesterday. This morning I had an adult male harlequin duck at my house in North Perry.  It was with a group of common goldeneye out on the open lake.  I tried getting some photos.  The bird was out about a quarter mile and it kept disappearing in the high waves.  Amazingly I was able to get a fairly decent shot of it.

Have you confirmed this as a Hoary. I have relatives that I have in North Olmsted and want to come up and look at the gulls on 72nd street. I am in Cincinnati and there is no way I can really see the difference in a Common or Hoary. I would need to see a confirmed sighting. John, I am the birder from Cincinnati that wants to see some of these gulls. It seems that the 72nd Ave area is holding the most variety. Do you think the cold weather at the end of the week will re freeze the area and make the area more condensed or will the warm weather early this week, screw it up.
